About Us
MPI Labs focuses on how macroeconomic policy should adapt to a world transformed by artificial intelligence. We study how AI affects productivity, labor markets, inequality, firm behavior, and long-term growth, and how governments should design policy under uncertainty. We are an interdisciplinary team of economists and data scientists collaborating with policymakers to produce rigorous, policy-relevant research.
Open Roles
Research Associate
This role supports quantitative research, empirical analysis, and model development across macroeconomics, AI, and uncertainty.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement quantitative macroeconomic models.
- Build datasets for macro indicators, AI adoption, labor markets, and related themes.
- Conduct empirical analysis using large-scale datasets.
- Apply econometric methods to macroeconomic and policy questions.
- Review literature on macroeconomics, fiscal policy, AI, labor, inequality, and uncertainty.
- Prepare tables, figures, dashboards, and visualizations for research and policy reports.
- Collaborate with economists, data scientists, and policy researchers.
- Support research leads in preparing policy-facing outputs such as briefs, presentations, and technical notes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in economics, statistics, data science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or another quantitative field.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with empirical or modeling experience.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred).
- Ability to work independently and contribute in a collaborative research setting.
- Demonstrated ability to execute research tasks with high attention to detail and consistency.
Senior Research Associate
This role leads independent quantitative research, empirical strategy design, and policy-facing analysis across macroeconomics, AI, and uncertainty.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead quantitative macroeconomic modeling efforts.
- Lead the development of datasets for macro indicators, AI adoption, labor markets, and related themes.
- Design novel econometric methods for policy research questions.
- Lead independent research workstreams from problem framing through final output.
- Design robust empirical strategies and ensure methodological quality across projects.
- Draft research memos, technical documentation, and policy-facing briefs.
- Collaborate with economists, data scientists, and policy researchers.
- Mentor junior researchers and coordinate collaborative execution within the research team.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree or master's degree (with significant research experience) in economics, statistics, data science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or another quantitative field.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with empirical or modeling experience.
- Proven experience leading independent research tasks and delivering high-quality outputs.
- Strong ability to translate technical analysis into policy-relevant recommendations.
